Dream Warning

By Susan Tangaro

One night while I was sleeping, I had a dream about my favorite Uncle Joey who had recently passed away. In my dream I could see him as if he was standing before me. I can still remember it as clear as day.

He asked me to go this home, get his daughter, and bring her home with me. He didn't say which daughter (he had 3), but I do remember saying back to him, "Uncle Joey, I can't do that."

"Just go and take her away from her mother!" he replied, "Yes, you can do it. She is going to get hurt. You have to save her."

The next thing I remember, I was in my bed crying. In the morning, I called my mother to tell her about the dream. She said, "You have to call Auntie Clara and warn her!" I told her she could if she wanted to, but that I couldn't tell her that. It was only a dream.

Three days later, on a Sunday, we went to my sister's home for a yearly family reunion. As family members were standing around talking and eating, in walked my Aunt Clara with three of her children. Then, behind them was her daughter, Ellie, walking on crutches. My aunt said she had broken her leg in a fall at a school event. My mother looked at me and said, "Always remember, my darling, that sometimes dreams really do come true."
