SP Dump By: Margie |

There is a haunted SP Dump in Rosedale, Louisiana. When we were seniors in high school, we scared ourselves silly by crossing the railroad tracks and going down a road covered with live oaks and Spanish moss. This road led so far back into the levee and bayou country that no one really knew where it came out. The haunting was supposed to have been a conductor with a lantern looking for his head. He had been decapitated when trying to couple some Southern Pacific cars. It was an orange light that started out small and dim way a ways back in the swamp road and then come toward you, getting larger and brighter. Needless to say, none of us stuck around to see it come close, but I, being new to the area, disregarded it as just a "tale". One night, my boyfriend took me back. We crossed the tracks and climbed over the gate which closed the swamp road. All of a sudden, a small light appeared. I thought it was a firefly, then it got closer and closer and larger and larger. We took off back to the car and I think I leaped over the gate I was so scared! Since that time, generations of South Louisiana kids have scared themselves silly.
