The terms "astral travel" and "out of body" depict the same kind of experience. It's the astral body separating itself from the physical body to move out and explore places one couldn't normally go. Some even say that it's also a way to be in two places at once and, indeed, it is. This kind of travel can be of great benefit as the following three stories will depict. A school teacher, only known as Madame Sage, was able to produce a double of herself, seemingly, at will. The double was able to be seen by others as easily as Madame Sage could be seen. Working at a girl's school in 1845 in Livonia, Russia, it was not unusual for students to see Madame Sage sitting and facing them, while another of her was seen at the same time writing on the blackboard. Others witnessed Madame Sage teaching inside the classroom, while the other her, was outside the classroom window picking flowers. Even a friend who tended Madame Sage while she was bedridden with a cold, stated that Madame Sage was in the bed, but another Madame Sage was walking around the room. This talent, though meant for maintaining discipline in the classroom (her back was never truly turned to her students) was not appreciated by those running the school. When questioned by them after 18 months of hearing the stories, Madame Sage admitted she could create a double of herself at will. She was fired for her ability - admitting that it wasn't the first time she'd lost her job over it. On another occasion, in 1828, a ship was sailing from England toward Nova Scotia. One evening, weeks into the journey, the first mate came across a man writing on the blackboard in the Captain's quarters. Not recognizing the man as one of the crew, the first mate informed the Captain immediately. Upon entering his quarters, the Captain did not see anyone, but the words, "Steer to the Nor'west" were clearly written. Attempting to solve the mystery, the Captain required everyone aboard the ship to write the words, then compared each to the writing on the blackboard. There was no match. Unable to explain it, the Captain ordered the ship to change course to follow the instructions from the unknown writer. Several hours later, a ship was spotted, trapped within the ice of the North Atlantic. All of the passengers were brought aboard. When one man climbed aboard, the first mate immediately recognized him as the man from the Captain's quarters. The Captain had the man write the words and the handwriting matched perfectly.

The Captain of the trapped vessel stated that the man had fallen asleep shortly after they'd become stuck in the ice. When he awoke, he told the captain that they would all be saved. His sleep time corresponded perfectly to the time the first mate saw him writing on the blackboard. Another seemingly amazing occurrence took place in 1955. A man traveled to Oslo, Norway to check out the possibility of importing some china and glass. He had never been to Norway before, but when he went to check into the hotel, the clerk warmly welcomed him back. When the man tried to tell the clerk that he'd never been to Norway before, the clerk described the last time he'd visited explaining also that the man's last name, Gorique, was quite unique and not easily forgotten. Gorique went to his room more than a little puzzled. The following day, Gorique went to speak to a wholesale dealer. Upon entering the establishment, the dealer greeted him warmly and welcomed him back exclaiming that their last visit had been far too short. Gorique was astounded, yet again, telling the dealer as he'd told the clerk that he'd never been to Norway before. He was at a loss over their memories of him. The dealer told Gorique that it was not uncommon for a psychic double to travel ahead of the physical body and to carry out the plans beforehand. Gorique was assured by the dealer that it was nothing to worry about and that it happened all the time. They had even given the psychic double a name there. It was called a Vardogr.
