THE SEANCES

1ST SÉANCE IN THE KING EDWARD ROOM

     Most of the group were in this room with Rob, the custodian, and it was dark and very cold. Rob started off the séance. He could sense three soldiers enter the room with the same evil presence that we had experienced earlier. Rob said he could see them approaching the circle. Rose went cold and felt the hairs on her arms stand on end. Greg felt someone behind him. Claire had someone touch her wrist and Berni noticed a fleeting shadow walk the balcony.

     The King Edward Room is the oldest and most active part of the castle. It was the room that brought Sarah to her knees to adopt the position of execution and where other members were overcome with emotion. Definitely a room that had some effect on us all, and in some ways, a room where its history had stuck to its walls.

THE GREY ROOM APARTMENTS

     This area of the castle was made available courtesy of guests who were staying over at the castle. These people had seen some of the Team around the castle and were intrigued to find out what they were doing. Sarah, Denise and Ollie were invited up to their rooms.
     Above the Grey Room were some very narrow stairs and a small doorway leading into an attic bedroom. Using their dowsing rods, the presence of a little girl named Amelia was picked up on. She was around six or seven and had died from complications of the chest and had difficulty in breathing. We asked the residents if they objected to other experienced members of the group coming into their rooms and trying out some experiments.
     3.30 ~ Quite a few members of the Team came into the room. Cameras were set up to record events. One or two of the Team began to notice fluctuations of temperature in the room so acted accordingly with their E.M.F. readers and cameras by taking readings and photographs in the direction of the cold spots.

     Parlour games were called for so Berni and Denise, who are experienced in the art of table tipping, used a small table to get the show going. Some of the residents had a "hands on" approach to this experience whilst others shied away from it. This table turned this way and that, then danced moving around in circles while balanced on one leg. One by one our hands were removed till there was only one person left holding the table and still it danced its jig. Several knocks were also heard coming from deep within the core of the table.

     For a finale, the Team decided to use a glass to perform a séance and came up with the presence of a woman named Elizabeth who was looking for her baby. Babies' cries had been heard earlier by the residents of this room and the smell of baby sick had also been detected by several people.
     Later on, a small group of people went up to the tiny attic room. Sarah, using a crystal, came up with the presence of a man named Henry, a person who bred horses on the Chillingham Estate during the eighteenth century. We did intend to seek confirmation from Rob, but somehow our intention got lost along the way when it was suggested we hold a final séance in The King Edward Room.

FINAL SÉANCE IN THE KING EDWARD ROOM

     Just before dawn, the entire Team held a final séance. Sitting around a large table in the King Edward Room, the temperature went icy cold and the stench of excrement filled the noses of some of the crew. According to Rob, cleanliness was not a virtue practiced by the inhabitants of Medieval England, and he then proceeded to give a graphic account of the inhabitant's ablutions.
     In response to our questions, the dragging of something heavy over in one of the corners of the room was heard. This spooked a few because the group believed they were in touch with John Sage.

     Shadows were again seen fleeting about the room, and various members felt tingling and strange sensations. Ollie, who was in charge of the séance, thought it might be wise to come away from it all and call it a night as she felt the atmosphere was building up and thought that discretion might be the better option.
     The night's investigation had been a great success and many people experienced various goings on of one sort or another. Every member came away with a tale to tell of their Chillingham experience, and although photographic evidence was sparse in some respects, paranormal activity wasn't. Chillingham proved to be one of the most active locations we have visited to date.
