DISINFORMATION continued...

There are many more questions remaining, but you get the gist. Either this is the most elaborate, perfectly orchestrated hoax of all time, of we are not being told the truth by the government. The question we have to ask ourselves is: If the government is purposely keeping us from the truth about Roswell, Area 51 and other events, what is the motivation to do so?

One reason being bandied about is the religious implications. What would happen if the public were to know about a race of superior intelligence? How would religious leaders explain the situation to their flock? Look at the grief Copernicus caused with his discoveries 500 years ago. Discovering that Earth was not the center of the Universe contradicted Church teachings and theological chaos followed in much of Christendom. But, eventually, the chaos cleared and society coped, and in my opinion for the better. So, I really don't think religion is a primary reason.

Another possibility is that the government is trying to prevent mass panic similar to the effects that Orson Welles' "War of the Worlds" broadcast had in 1939. But, the broadcast only affected a small number of people, who, by the way, tuned into the broadcast late. With recent polls showing over half of the country's population believe in other life forms, I don't see the mass panic argument as valid.

What about national security? Well, I'm unable to determine why that could be a reason. I'm under the assumption that if indeed aliens have arrived, they must be of superior intelligence and capabilities and could conquer us at anytime if they choose. In this day and age of global terrorism, we are constantly reminded of the dangers terrorists pose to our society. So, why wouldn't the government keep us informed of any dangers from an alien race?

I believe the real, albeit cynical, reason for the government keeping us from the truth is simple. Credibility.

It is the nature of all forms of government to maintain and enhance their power over their citizenship. If the claims of the Roswell incident are in fact true, and the government has been keeping it from the public for nearly 60 years, admission to that fact would discredit their authority and greatly diminish their power. Think of it like this. The government has kept this from you, and then suddenly the truth is out. How can they be trusted to effectively govern in other areas? The public will then wonder what else they are lying about.

For the most part, most people have the attitude that lying is just a part of politics and they go on with their daily lives. But, with a lie of this magnitude, the whole essence of the government's existence is called into play and those in power won't have the trust of the public and may have to find another line of work.

Personally, as a lover of freedom, I look forward to that day.
