Interview with Pendulum Dowser

Christina M. Schumacher

Question #1:  Chris, your specialty is doing readings by pendulum dowsing. How, and when, did you discover this ability and how long have you been reading for others?

I am a late bloomer in comparison to the others being interviewed for this magazine issue as I've only been doing readings for about one year. I discovered my ability by a very interesting chain of events.

The idea came to me to make pendulum boards of varied design using my woodburning skill of 20 years. When I get ideas like this out of the clear blue, I know that they are not coming from me, so I never ignore them. I began drawing up different designs right away.

At the same time, I was searching the net for some interesting people for possible MP3 interviews for the site and came across Rachel Keene. I was intrigued at her ability to draw a person's spirit guide upon receiving a photo of the person requesting the drawing. I paid the fee and sent my photo. As promised, my drawing came within 10 days and I was introduced to my main guide, Sakeina.

While I waited for the drawing of my guide, The Night Watchman and I took our girls and a neighborhood adopted son to Meskwaki Powwow. While there, we browsed the many shopping booths full of jewelry, leather goods, and wares. I came across a small display of pendulums and was drawn to one in particular. I didn't purchase it right then, but went around with the kids to purchase little trinkets for them. The pendulum seemed to call out to me and, before we left, I went back and bought it.

So, with the drawing of Sakeina in front of me, I chose a pendulum board I'd made and sat down to give it a try. Thus, began my regular communication with Sakeina and several of my other guides. Everything fell into perfect place to lead up to this moment.

Question #2:  What kind of readings do you do for others?

The main readings I do cover working with my guides to determine, through a photo of the person requesting my service, who their spirit guides are. I receive the names of their guides, whether these guides are male or female as they would appear to us, where these guides are from in terms of places we would recognize, what they are currently helping the person with from Spirit, and how many past lives the person has lived.

There are times when I am doing a pendulum session with Sakeina for myself that I have had loved ones for someone else come in during my lesson. I will, of course, continue the session, then pass on the message to the person it's intended for. On a few occasions, I've also had friends request that I attempt to contact a loved one and, with Sakeina's help, I have received information for them from that loved one. However, I don't, at this point, advertise this kind of reading.

Question #3:  How exactly does a pendulum session work? Is it a long process and how does the information come forward? What does the client receive?

When I first started, about a year ago, the sessions could take nearly three hours to get 10 lines of writing. At this time, Sakeina was working to match my energy pattern so that the sessions could run faster and smoother. Through practice, I learned the way she would move the pendulum and our energy moved into sync, so now I can get much more information in a shorter period of time.

In the beginning, I had Sakeina swing back and forth between two sets of three letters which were opposite one another on the pendulum board. Then, I would choose a side and test one letter at a time until she went in circles over the correct letter. It was a slow and tedious process.

As our energy came together, I could hold the pendulum over the center circle of the board and feel which way Sakeina was pulling me so that I would not have to go through six letters just to get one. Now, Sakeina pulls me directly to each letter and there is no more guess work. The session moves very quickly now in comparison. In fact, if someone is watching my session, they can actually see "the pull" of the pendulum.

As to what my client receives for a spirit guide reading, it's the information shared in question #2. The times that passed loved ones come through during my personal lessons with Sakeina or, when I initiate contact for a friend, the messages come through in normal sentences, word by word, and that is what the person receives.

Question #4:  There are some people who feel a pendulum board is very similar to a Ouija board. Have you ever had anyone ask you about this and if you feel it's dangerous? What are your thoughts on this?

Yes, the Ouija board has both a good and a bad reputation depending on who a person talks to. A pendulum board is very much like a Ouija board with letters and numbers - the difference is using a pendulum rather than a planchette to indicate the letters. Another difference is that a Ouija board is normally used with two people and the pendulum is held by one.

My personal feeling is that there is nothing evil about the Ouija board, the pendulum board, a bowl of water for scrying, tarot cards, etc. What happens when using these tools is very much dependent on HOW they are used and how much respect is given to them. My guide, Sakeina, appointed a gatekeeper for me to call on for protection against less evolved spirits as it made me feel more comfortable. I call on this gatekeeper before every pendulum session. I also always treat and speak to my guides and, any spirits that come through, with the utmost respect. I don't ask foolish questions and, oftentimes, I don't ask any questions at all. I just ask if there is anything they wish to teach me today and let them go from there.

The problem lies in thinking that these tools are a "game". They are not and can possibly have very serious repercussions for someone if not treated with the proper respect. There has never been any doubt in my mind that my guides have my best interest, and the best interest of others, always in mind.

Question #5:  What has been the biggest challenge you have had in working with your new found ability?

I have to say "belief" has been my biggest challenge. After waiting for nearly 35 years to have communication with my guides, to suddenly have that communication would make most anyone wonder if what they are receiving for information is somehow coming from their own mind. Sakeina has been incredibly patient and understanding with me in this area. I've never doubted that others have certain capabilities, but when it comes to experiencing it personally, it can really throw you for a loop. I've come a long way in a year of working with my guides and am learning to trust fully in them AND to trust myself that I am relaying the information they share properly.
