VI. Protection

The thrill of investigating often clouds out a very important issue. The paranormal is so mystifying and exciting, yet the surface of all its mysteries has barely been scratched. So, the underlying question is, is it safe to investigate?

Many believe that there are good and bad spirits in the Spirit World, just as there are good and bad people on Earth. Some believe that you should never conduct an investigation if you are ill, sad, angry, or have just experienced the death of a friend or loved one. The belief is that there are spirits who can take advantage of such a person whose defenses are down by possibly following them home or even possessing them. Some believe that you should never investigate without giving yourself protection.

Of course, not everyone believes in good and evil or in possession, but we ARE dealing with the unknown here, aren’t we?

We are all careful with our physical bodies – wearing seatbelts, driving and walking cautiously on ice, looking both ways before crossing the street, etc. We do this because no one likes pain or the limitation of an injury and not doing these things could bring about bad situations. Shouldn’t we protect our spirits just as carefully… just in case?

Protection is a very quick and simple process and is based on your own beliefs. A prayer of protection; imagining yourself surrounded by a protective white light; a request to your Spirit Guides or Guardian Angels for protection; or even a ritual. Some people carry such things as Holy water, rosaries, gemstones that are said to have special protective qualities such as aquamarine, carnelian, and amethyst; and crosses. There are even those who not only ask for protection for themselves, but also bless their equipment.

It doesn’t matter how you ask for protection or what you carry. In fact, it doesn’t even really matter if you believe consciously in your protection request. A part of you WILL believe.

A seatbelt is no guarantee that you will not die or be severely hurt if you are in a car accident, but most of us still buckle up even before we start the car and this is not just because it’s the law now. A part of us “believes in the possibility” that something bad COULD happen and that the small piece of nylon and metal latching mechanism MAY save our lives.

If you are going on an adventure somewhere that few had ventured into and you didn’t know what or whom you might encounter, wouldn’t you take some form of protection?

Each investigation you do in the area of the paranormal IS that adventure. Our advice to you is to protect yourself from whomever or whatever you might encounter – both physically AND spiritually.

Our motto is “Better safe than sorry.”
