I. Why Are We Ghost Hunting?

The starting point in my fascination for ghost hunting was television. Many of you may remember the show “The Night Stalker,” where investigator, Carl Kolchak, tried to solve spooky mysteries. The show took the unexplained and made it seem plausible for the average person to go out and hunt down ghosts; at least for a nine-year-old boy. Since then, my fascination has never stopped. Sadly, it wasn’t until a couple of years ago that I finally went out on my first official ghost hunt. I guess I was a little apprehensive to share my fascination with other people early on in my life. I would have been uncomfortable to say, “Hey guys, let’s go to the cemetery and see what’s going on.” But since the advent of the internet, we all know that ghost hunting has an enormous following and we no longer have to be shy about our wanting to explore these avenues.

You could have, at first, put me in the “fun” category of ghost hunters. My initial purpose was the thrill. I was looking to get a good scare and for a good story to tell. But, as I got deeper into research of the subject, my purpose changed. I really wanted to know what was going on. Is there an afterlife? Are spirits around us? If so, what is their purpose for hanging around and why aren’t most people able to acknowledge their presence? As I became more involved, it became apparent that no matter how much experience you have in this field, few answers are ever reached, but more questions evolve.

Once you begin your ghost hunting journey, it may take some time to capture something you can’t explain on film or on tape. But once you do, and you will, you will begin to understand that there just isn’t a logical explanation for everything. I’ll give you an example of this below. It is a still shot from our video camera with two enlargements, and you can view what we caught on our video camera of this as well from the link provided.

Chris and I had just begun seriously investigating. Through our research, we found a story about the Hazel Green Cemetery near where we lived at the time. According to legend, some of the area’s townspeople reported seeing the ghost of a woman holding her baby while rocking on a rocking chair on the gazebo that is located on the cemetery grounds. That’s all it took. We were on our way there. We went out a few times with our video cameras and tape recorders to see what we could capture. During the first few times out, we didn’t capture anything, but on or around our fourth time out, we did capture something we couldn’t explain. While looking at the video we had taken, there was, what appeared to be, a woman rocking in a rocking chair on the gazebo. We both looked at each other in amazement. Could this actually be what we thought it was? Our next move was to call the girls in to get a second opinion. We asked them to tell us what they saw on the video. Sure enough, they both detailed exactly what we were seeing. And, the kicker was, we had not told them about the legend. Talk about an adrenaline rush!
