ASTRAL EXPERIENCE
By Chris Morford

Just as a bit of background, several years ago I'd read a Dean Koontz novel that had a character who was able to do astral projection. It fascinated me and I tucked the idea away in my memories.
One morning about three years ago, in early summer, my semi-conscious brain knew, as it is prone to, that I was trying to wake up from an extremely deep sleep. I felt like I was pulling my eyes open starting from my toes. But, as I made the mental acknowledgement that I was waking up, a very disturbing little thought came front and center - I needed to get back to my body before it woke up!
Mentally, my head snapped around and I yelled, "Where did THAT come from!"
I awoke and the thought didn't disappear with the last remnants of sleep. I remember staring at the ceiling for the longest time, trying to sort things out. That didn't help. For some reason I thought it would help if I sat up. I made it to a sitting position, legs dangling a scant half-inch from the carpeted floor, and continued to sort. Finally, I shook my head and decided nothing was going to sort out, but I was very disturbed by the whole experience and vowed that I'd never think about astral projection again. I also vowed to not mention this "dream" to anyone!
My resolve was shattered two weeks later when a co-worker casually asked why I'd been in his in-law's living room two weekends previous. I stared at the man and asked him who his in-laws were, trying the whole time to remember a social gathering that I'd been to. I was coming up very empty.
Dan proceeded to explain he'd been at his in-laws doing some house sitting while they were on vacation. He'd decided to wash and air out some sleeping bags they had as his kids were going to a Boy Scout camp. He explained he'd washed the sleeping bags and draped them over the split rail fence for them to dry the evening before, and when he'd returned Saturday morning, he pulled them inside to roll them up. Without thinking, he'd placed the bags on the new near-white carpeting in the living room for the rolling process. As he was finishing up, he realized the color of the bags had leached onto the carpet.
It was then that he saw me out of the corner of his eye, watching him. I was dressed in a navy blue skirt, white shirt and navy heels, had my arms crossed across my chest, and was shaking my head back and forth at him for ruining his in-law's carpet!
It goes without saying that I was deeply disturbed by the conversation, but I never did let on to him the experience I'd had on a Saturday morning -- the same morning he'd experienced my appearance!
After this, I was more determined than ever not to explore astral projection any further, and I've never experienced the sensation during the waking process again. I hope that means my travels are now limited to my waking hours!

** Note From The Editor**

Upon receiving and reading Chris's experience, I had a few questions for her about it, and I thought if I had questions, so might you. I emailed her with these questions. She graciously replied and also gave her permission to allow our question and answer segment to appear here.**

Part of Editor's letter to Chris:

You know, you are one of the rare people that have actually had a validation of their astral experience without a preset test set up. Your validation came from Dan who saw you giving him the shake of the head over his ruining that carpet! What I am wondering is can you remember what you were thinking when you went to sleep that night? Had you thought of Dan at all? And, although you explained how you awoke, did you remember being at Dan's in-laws in your "dream" as you stated it and as he later validated? I know that when a person wants to travel astrally to a certain place, they need only think of that place before closing their eyes, so I was wondering if this might have been the case for you even though you weren't really trying to travel.

Chris Morford's Response:

You know, I was totally surprised when Dan asked me the question. I had no idea I'd actually done astral projection... I just thought I was having an overactive imagination. I never, in a million years, thought I'd done it. When Dan asked me this question, totally out of the blue, I was glad I was sitting down. The outfit I was wearing was one of my favorite office outfits, and it was one Dan had previously complimented me on. I don't remember thinking about doing this. There was no effort on my part CONSCIOUSLY to do it, and Dan had not been on my mind. The whole thing was so terribly random and I would not have taken his comments seriously at all if I'd not had my own experiences on that same Saturday morning. I had no recollection of anything when I woke up, or when Dan asked the question. Yet, I must admit, once he asked me about it, in my mind's eye, I can see exactly what that living room looks like and where he was kneeling. That image in my mind has never changed, but I frankly don't have the courage to ask Dan if I can go visit his in-law's house to see if I'm right. Dan and I do joke from time to time about this. I think we were both freaked and this is how we handle it. I just tell him to behave because he just never knows where I'll turn up!
